iMethods is Running the Relay!

The One to Grow On UltramarathonWolfson Children’s Hospital’s One to Grow On Ultra Marathon was held on January 28th, 2012 beginning at 12:00 a.m. There was plenty of excitement and energy in the atmosphere that early morning as supporters came out to cheer on the 9 Ultra Marathoners and the 16 relay teams. On average, each relay team consisted of 10 people and the goal was to have a group of relay runners on the course with the Ultra Marathoners every hour. Teams and support systems were geared up for the cool temperatures and long morning. Affectionately termed, “Tent City” - several teams camped out all night long in support of the Ultra Marathoners and their fellow relay teammates. They brought tents, sleeping bags, chairs, coolers, and even industrial heaters. Enthusiasm was not lacking, a team even dressed up in princess costumes to bring more fun & excitement to the event and support one of the 55 children, Elizabeth Forte. iMethods participated in the festivities with a relay team including iMethods employees, family and friends. Along with participating in the run, the team was able to fund raise over $2,000 for the hospital. With the proceeds raised, the relay team along with the families of employee Sisteria Anderson and fiancé Henry Simmons sponsored child Yaseem Walker.

Once the ultra marathon was under way, the excitement and commitment did not diminish. The Ultra Marathoners and Relay Team runners had supporters running or cycling along with them on the loops. Each Ultra Marathoner and relay team ran 11 loops equaling 55 miles, which required them to cross over the Main Street & Acosta Bridges in downtown Jacksonville to complete a single loop. Altogether, the runners ran about 1,345 miles and crossed the Main Street and Acosta Bridge 275 times. Let's remember the number of miles is not what is important. The 55 children that were celebrated throughout the entire event was the most important factor. It is because of their courage and optimism through surgeries, treatments and recoveries that we celebrate. It’s all for the kids, they are the true champions.

Thank you to everyone for your support towards the One to Grow On Ultra Marathon!
